England have a vast array of talent in almost every position and Southgate will have to narrow that down over the course of the next few months.
Southgate is confident his men can win the tournament but has admitted they will have to be ‘close to perfect’ to triumph in the Persian Gulf.

England’s plans were dented in June as they failed to win any of their four Nations League games and were smashed 4-0 by Hungary most recently.

The Three Lions only have two games left before the World Cup as they face Italy and Germany in September.

Due to the hectic scheduling of this winter’s tournament, England will not have any warm-up games.

So, how much do we know about England’s preparations, when will they have to finalise their squad and where they will be based? Southgate will announce his squad for Qatar on or around Thursday, October 20.

That is 30 days before the World Cup’s opening match and the date FIFA have set as the final deadline for all 32 teams to submit their full squads.

Southgate has the option of naming his squad earlier than that but he waited until the deadline to do so back in Russia in 2018.

Southgate recently gave a clue to his World Cup plans after confirming his ranks for the disappointing end-of-season Nations League matches in June.

West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen received his first England call-up with Leicester’s James Justin, Fikayo Tomori and Tammy Abraham in the squad.

But Arsenal star Emile Smith Rowe, Tottenham defender Eric Dier and Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson were among those to miss out.

Southgate will be able to test out further options in September in their final two Nations League games – England are away to Italy on September 23 before hosting Germany on September 26.Southgate’s squad are set to be treated like royalty when they stay in the Souq Al Wakra hotel in Qatar later this year.

According to Sportsmail, a provisional booking has been made for when the tournament is set to start in November.

The Souq Al Wakra hotel is alcohol-free but does boast a private beach, fitness centre and hydro pool as well as a spa and multiple restaurants.

England will then train at the Saoud bin Abdulrahman Stadium for the duration of their World Cup stay.
